Since you can't set timings & voltages for each individual memory slot, having two (or 4) What is a match pair & why is this important?Ī match pair is memory modules with the exact same performance output. The exact RAM I'm using now is this which is not available anymore to buy: 4x1GB Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X2048-6400C4īut the better combo is 2x2Gbs as you have a better chance of getting a good solid matched pair which is what's really needed for this. This is the reason I'm having to loosen my timings to 5-5-5-15 instead of running them at CL4 (4-4-4-12) which is what they are designed for to reach higher clock speeds and stay stable. Yea I'm running 1x4 but that was because I had 2x1Gbs installed already & got the other 2 for $20 while it was on sale at Newegg so I couldn't pass up that deal! (Feel free to jump in here at anytime guys!) Others members here have run other makes of RAM with good results too (G.SKILL) so they might have some This is as cheap of RAM as I would use for OCing. (The 8500 will give you more headroom though) Your best combo is 2x2Gbs of say Corsair XMS2 PC2-8500 or PC2-6400. So start shopping for some quality RAM to put in the board. You can't go cheap with RAM at all an expect to get good results. This one component in & of itself will make or break an OCing endevour.īut from what you've told me so far the weak link aka choke point in your OCing now is your RAM & this is what's causing your system to crash. This starts out with the PSU & whether or not it's supplying "Clean" power. If you want to get any kind of stable higher clock speeds your have to use "Quality" parts or it's just not gonna happen for ya. The ram i have is nothing special so im surprised it is actually oc ing think its hynix 7200 or something like that.Įvery HW component is important when it comes to OCing your system & RAM is one of the extremely important parts! Thankyou for the tips i will post back when i have a more stable oc or not lol Yeah i can see this is a good forum its helped me alot already and ive only been ocing for a few days, all i have learnt has been from this thread and its various links to other usful information on this mb.Īgreed it is well worth researching prior to oc ing to see what others have done before and gives you a good starting point ! The ram i have is nothing special so im suprised it is actually oc ing think its hynix 7200 or something like that i may grab some decent ram at some point but see how it goes for now. I have tried the recommend voltage on the cpu at 1.4375 and it freezes on me i also tried 1.4500 but the same so perhaps it maybe even needs more, i will research some more but ive dropped it to a safe 3Ghz for now till tomorrow when i will have another go at it, Thats actually really good to hear gives me more confidence in pushing up the volts a little more, i have found the above configuration not stable enough i ran various stability tests earlier and one made it crash or freeze up on me so have started from scratch again ive done alot with it today, alot of it to be honest is finding out what does work and what doesnt work which i think i have a good idea now, Btw, the Q6600 can take a LOT of voltage before it gets dangerous so the voltages you are at now are actually pretty low already.
